One Man Making a Difference Abraham Lincoln and Slavery...

Most people can agree on the fact that president Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States is considered to be one of the most outstanding citizens. He is known for his presidency which he fought the confederacy during the civil war where he managed to abolish slavery. Which all happened with the help of the Republican party, whom were chosen because he felt like he wanted to make a point and would need the help of a strong party to do so. Lincoln was a man of not only right doings but of moral ethics. Many that led him to be the great citizen he was. Ending slavery was the biggest of his goals. He had a strong opinion about it and was determined to accomplish it. With his goals, he did a great deal of things. Such as†¦show more content†¦Resolving in the trigger that caused secession in South Carolina. Letting us to realize that the real cause for this great American war was economy, not slavery. Even though Lincolns goals were towards freeing African Ameri cans, the fact that it would interfere with the South’s economy was when this crisis spread, dividing our country into two. Lincoln knew he as president had to resolve all of this. So he gathered troops and went to take control. He ordered the U.S Army to blockade all main ports in the south. The blockade stopped King Cotton which ruined the South’s economy. The blockade finally ended with Unions/ North’s victory at the second battle of Fort Fisher in January 1865. To end the war north went burning homes, destroying railroads rather than killing civilian and such calling it a total war. Later after series of small wars, Sherman and his army left Atlanta, Georgia marching toward an unknown destination. He reached the Atlantic Ocean on December 1864 and was followed by thousands of free slaves. Slavery ending officially ending in Spring of 1865 when the southern side surrendered.
